Nominations open for North West awards
Manufacturers of all sizes across the North West are setting their sights on winning top regional recognition for their outstanding performance.
Manufacturers of all sizes across the North West are setting their sights on winning top regional recognition for their outstanding performance In the annual "Accelerating the Transformation" awards run by The Manufacturing Institute, companies this year are competing not only for the overall "North West Manufacturer of the Year" title, but also a new top award specially for small-to-medium companies of fewer then 250 employees

Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.
There are also a number of category awards including: best productivity improvement; commitment to developing people; sustaining continuous improvement; success through innovation; and best initial improvement.
Each category award comes with prizes worth GBP 5000, with an additional GBP 5000 training package and crystal trophies for the companies that take one of the two "Manufacturer of the Year" titles.
The closing date for entries for the 2005 awards is 31st May, with the winners to be announced at a gala dinner in Manchester this autumn.
Last year's top title went to the Congleton electronics company Siemens and among the category winners were Skelmersdale-based Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics UK and Hitachi Automotive Systems - Europe (HASE) of Horwich.
Julie Madigan, Chief Executive of The Manufacturing Institute, commented: "The awards scheme is a golden opportunity for companies that are proud of their performance to be recognised and rewarded for the success they have achieved".
"It is also a time to celebrate manufacturing excellence across the North West, which is the biggest manufacturing region in the UK in terms of employment, output and turnover".
The awards scheme is part of the wide support provided to the region by The Manufacturing Institute, which delivers the DTI funded Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) in the North West.
Companies wishing to enter the awards scheme can do so on the Manufacturing Institute website.
