Former UN Commander Bob Stewart will inspire manufacturers to mobilise their people "weaponry" to win the business battle at a major summit in Bolton this November.

Former UN Commander Bob Stewart will inspire manufacturers to mobilise their people "weaponry" to win the business battle at a major summit in Bolton this November.

He is one of the keynote speakers at The Manufacturing Institute's 2005 Manufacturers' Autumn Summit at Bolton's Reebok Stadium on Wednesday, 9th November.

"Bosnia Bob" Stewart, who became a familiar figure on the television news during his period of command in the Balkans, left the Army in 1995 and is now a consultant in leadership and motivation.

He is currently filming a new series for Channel 5, due for broadcast in early 2006.

Other speakers from industry, academia and government include recent EFQM award winner Siemens Automation and Drives, Manufacturer Awards 2005 winner JohnsonDiversey, BAE Systems Manufacturing Director Frank Hayden, the CBI's Innovation Advisor John Beacham, and Peter Booth of the Transport and General Workers Union.

The summit: "Staying ahead: achieving growth through people, process and technological innovation", is focusing on the key themes vital in underpinning the competitive position of UK manufacturing.

More than 400 manufacturers are due to attend the event, which is supported by The Northwest Regional Development Agency and The Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) North West.

"Success in the future will be dictated by manufacturers who can compete on the basis of high skill, high value and high technology", said Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency.

"At the Summit, some of the UK's most advanced manufacturers will demonstrate how they are aligning people, processes and technology to take on the world and win".

Julie Madigan, Chief Executive of The Manufacturing Institute added: "The event will provide practical insights into the steps manufacturers can take to work smarter and improve and sustain their competitive edge".

"This is a rare networking opportunity - enabling manufacturers to witness best practice and learn from their peers".
