Top manufacturers have given "lean" techniques the credit for boosting their productivity - but what does "lean" actually mean?

A two-day North West masterclass later this month will answer the question "What does lean really mean?" The "Lean essentials" masterclass will be lifting the lid on the principles and processes of lean manufacturing on the first day, looking at the initial steps to take and how to recognise and eliminate waste

On the second day, it will be examining how to maximise the impact of lean to deliver real tangible and sustainable benefits to companies of all sizes.

The masterclass is being run by the Manufacturing Institute at its Manchester centre on 16th and 17th March 2006, and will include speakers from major companies such as PZ Cussons and Siemens that have successfully used lean to achieve higher performance.

"This is an ideal opportunity for companies in the North West to hear top manufacturers share the secrets of their success and take this knowledge back to their own workplace", said Dr Julie Madigan, Chief Executive of the Manufacturing Institute.
