Flowmeters aid in disinfectant dispenser

Titan Enterprises has developed turbine flowmeters in nonmetallic housings for use in the novel Sterilox 2501 generator and dispenser system.

Titan Enterprises has developed turbine flowmeters in nonmetallic housings for use in the novel Sterilox 2501 generator and dispenser system for Sterilox chemical sterilisation and disinfection liquid Used particularly in medical applications, for example on endoscopes, Sterilox is a safe, environmentally friendly, fast acting biocide, effective at low temperatures

The Sterilox 2501generator uses careful microprocessor control of the electrolysis of dilute brine solutions flowing through a patented electrochemical cell.

The process requires the correct liquid flow through the cell, and measurement of the total volume of fluid dispensed for accounting purposes.

The Titan flowmeter signals when any process deviation occurs from the specified optimum flow-rate, and when any leak or blockage conditions are detected on the delivery lines.

One unit on the machine is supplied suitable for a bulkhead fitting, which doubles as the external Sterilox delivery connection from the generator.

Titan FT2 turbine flowmeters have no metallic parts in contact with the metered fluid - they have polyphenyl sulphone (PPS) bodies and interchangeable end connections.

The Sterilox 2501 uses meters with plastic connections threaded typically 1in BSPM, on units measuring flows up to 60 litre/min.

Lower capacity units are supplied with 8mm hose tails.

The low voltage DC pulse output provided by the Titan optical sensor delivers flow information to the Sterilox microprocessor control unit, which derives flow rate and total information to an accuracy of +/-1%FSD.

The Titan FT2 also has a Hall effect magnetic pulse sensor available, for use on opaque or higher temperature liquids.

Another output from the generator is sterile rinse water, which is potable water dosed with 2% Sterilox, using two Titan FT2 turbine meters to control the dosing percentage.

This is sufficient to kill any bacteria present, and is finding increasingly wider use in the prevention of Legionella in cooling and rinse systems.

Sterilox has been awarded "Millennium Product" status, for its sheer innovation and environmental safety, and Titan Enterprises is proud to have co-operated in the development of the machines that will make this technology available in hospitals and surgeries worldwide.
