New from Tekscan is the intriguingly named Multi-Handle ELF (economical load and force) data acquisition system.

New from Tekscan is the intriguingly named Multi-Handle ELF (economical load and force) data acquisition system The system is ideal for users that are looking to prototype OEM applications requiring multiple force sensors, smart membrane switches, or actuation counters

This inexpensive measurement device allows users to view and record force applied on up to 16 tactile sensors.

The Multi-Handle ELF system exclusively uses Flexiforce sensors that have a patented interconnect to the MELF hardware.

These Flexiforce sensors are an ultra-thin 127um flexible printed circuit.

The standard sensor is 14mm wide and 229mm in length, and can easily be custom designed for OEM products.

The MELF software is a 32bit application compatible with Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT.

The software allows users to view a graphical representation of the force on the sensors in real time, record this information (as a 'movie'), and review and analyse it later.

There are a number of options for displaying the real-time force data.

It can be displayed as a strip chart, meter, column graph, or digital readout.

In addition, recorded "movie" frames can be saved as ASCII files, which can be imported into a spreadsheet program, or opened in a text editor or word processing program.

Eight different recording speeds are available from 8 to 200Hz.

Real-time data or "movie" frames can also be copied to the Windows clipboard and pasted into other applications as a bitmap.

Other additional features of the MELF system include multipoint calibration routines and the ability to tare a load.

The MELF system's Flexiforce sensors can be integrated into a range of medical, industrial, and consumer products.

The possibilities for integration are endless.

Just a few product examples include: surgical tools, infusion pumps, roller adjustment tools, toys, electronic games and robots.
