Steppers lead a new drive line

A Total Motion Systems product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 22, 2005

Total Motion Systems (TMS) has entered the drives manufacturing business with the launch of its first product series, the GSD1x family of stepper motor drives.

The GSD1x drives are available in two ranges: the GSD1x-1, which offers full step (200step/rev) and half step (400step/rev) operation at peak currents of up to 5A/phase, can be used as a replacement for the obsolete Parker SD range; and the GSD1x-2 offers enhanced performance at up to 4000step/rev with peak currents of up to 7.1A/phase.

The drives are capable of being fed from a multi tapped 44V AC isolation transformer or can operate directly from a DC supply in the range 24-70V DC.

The GSD1x drives can also be specially configured to meet specific customer requirements.

GSD1x drives have an onboard oscillator and feature short circuit protection from phase to ground and between phases as well as overvoltage protection.

Single ended step, direction and energise inputs are provided for connection to external controllers as are fault and zero phase outputs.

The drives are suitable for mounting into standard 19in 3U racks, having board depth of 160mm with width of 100 or 111.7mm.

Board height is 35mm.

All input and output connections are provided via a 32-pin DIN41612 connector.

The GSD1x drives comply with the latest EMC and LVD standards for drive systems as called for by CE Directive.

This is the first in a series of drives to be offered by TMS through an experienced design team based in Poole, Dorset.

The team is also able to engineer and support custom products to meet demanding market requirements in both servo and stepper technologies.
