Flowmeters improve coating consistency
Trimec flowmeters are being used in the manufacturing of sealants for glazing, roofing and flooring applications in the construction industry.
Trimec flowmeters have been used by a manufacturer and distributor of sealants and fire protective coatings to ensure a higher level of quality, consistency and traceability in its manufacturing process The new flowmeters also play an important role in the implementation of a Scada system The flowmeters were supplied by Trimec Industries Europe to Wigan based Tremco-Illbruck, which installed them as part of the process for manufacturing sealants for glazing, roofing and flooring applications in the construction industry

Flowmeters suit a range of liquids
The new Tremic flowmeters offer accuracy of +/-0.5% of reading, repeatability of +/- 0.03%, and no requirement for flow conditioning.
Tremco-Illbruck also produce fire-protective coatings for similar applications at the site and this was the first production process on which the new flowmeters were installed.
The flowmeters operate on process delivery lines from bulk storage tanks to mixing vessels, where they monitor and control volumes delivered.
They are also used for monitoring flow rates in the vessel cooling systems.
Previously mechanical flowmeters with independent presets had been used, and these were hindering the process of improving control and were incompatible with the Scada system being introduced.
They did not exploit the latest technology or provide the recipe handling and data logging facilities which Tremco-Illbruck was looking to achieve.
Meters with presets are complex and have high maintenance requirements.
Steve Mann, Tremco-Illbruck Engineering Technician said, "The Trimec flowmeters were easy to install and have been integrated into our Scada system, they are relatively simple devices and virtually maintenance-free".
"We particularly appreciate that they are programmable, also the graphical representation of the process, real-time display of values and the data logging functions are very useful".
"We have optimised our manufacturing capacity and now have full traceability of each batch".
"By optimising and monitoring our production processes we have improved the quality and repeatability of our process which has contributed to a reduction in energy use and materials by minimising waste".
Since the original installation a further four flowmeters have been supplied as part of an ongoing upgrading process at Tremco-Illbruck.
