Transmitton is the Scada contractor on the Network Rail West Coast Power Supply Upgrade.

Transmitton, now part of Siemens Transportation Systems rail communications group in the UK, is the Scada contractor on the Network Rail West Coast Power Supply Upgrade, a programme of works to reinforce the electrification infrastructure, increasing available power to enable train operators to enhance the train service Transmitton is working on the Harker area in the Cathcart Region of the West Coast Main Line

The traction system will be changed significantly, upgrading the 1960s 25kV classic electrification system to a 25-0-25kV autotransformer (AT) system.

Scada will control a number of new trackside traction substations; these locations will be integrated into the overhead line equipment (OLE) electrification system, which must remain operational throughout the upgrade.

Consequently much of the power supply upgrade work will take place on or next to a fully operational high speed AC electrified railway, although the Scada works will be mostly within substation buildings or electrical control rooms.

Harker area comprises substation sites, from Great Strickland to Carstairs, along the West Coast Main Line.

Work will be associated primarily with Boundary sites where control is from the Transmitton Scada master station control system at Cathcart.

The work affects mainly the Harker and Great Strickland Feeder Stations.

Transmitton will supply new fastflex remote terminal units (RTU) and modifications to the cromos Scada master station at Cathcart.

Transmitton Account Manager John Weston comments", The Harker improvements form the start of an exciting, larger programme that will significantly upgrade the West Coast Main Line over the next few years".

"Site works have started already with completion expected in March".
