Green cleaning in Ireland
Three Irish medical device manufacturers have recently switched to HFE-based Novec solvents.
The superior performance, safety and environmental properties of 3M Novec Engineered Fluids for cleaning, tube swelling, silicone deposition and water displacement applications is evidenced by the recent decisions of some leading Irish medical device manufacturers, to adopt them for their processes Brennan and Co, the 3M Distributor in Ireland, is now supplying these HFE-based Novec solvents to Stryker Instuments, Tyco Healthcare and Meridian Medical Technologies

Film cleaning role ideal for HFE fluids
3M Novec Engineered Fluids, based on hydrofluorether (HFE) technology, are now proving a great success for cleaning film in post production houses, film archives and motion picture laboratories
Surgical devices manufacturer, Stryker Instruments found its optimum cleaning solution with Novec HFE-71DE, which it is using in Kerry Microsolve 350 equipment with ultrasonics.
This provides high performance cleaning and overcomes the safety and environmental concerns associated with chlorinated solvents.
To comply with the regulatory ban on the use of HCFCs, Tyco Healthcare at Tullamore required an effective solvent replacement for silicone tube swelling applications.
Here again Novec HFE-71DE proved to be the ideal long-term alternative which met all the performance, safety and environmental criteria.
Since replacing CFC-113 (Freon) in its processes, Meridian Medical Technologies, a leading supplier of single-use auto-injectors, has adopted the use of Novec HFE-7100 with Promosol HFE-71DS1 for effective water displacement after the aqueous cleaning of sensitive components.
