Wyeth Medica Ireland has specified Torbar flowmeters for use in one of the largest pharmaceutical plants in the world.

Wyeth Medica Ireland, part of the global pharmaceutical manufacturer Wyeth, has specified Torbar flowmeters for its plant in Newbridge, Co Kildare, Ireland, said to be one of the largest pharmaceutical plants in the world Over 50 of Torbar's Hot Tap retractable averaging pitot tube sensors have been supplied to measure chilled, process and effluent water, steam and air flows in pipeline diameters ranging from 50 to 600mm

Wyeth has operations in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North and South America and manufactures pharmaceuticals, biotechnology products, consumer healthcare products and animal healthcare products.

The Newbridge plant, employing over 1000 people, manufactures and distributes pharmaceutical products and is one of four Wyeth facilities in Ireland.

The Hot Tap Torbar flowmeters have been developed for safe and easy insertion and retraction in pressurised pipelines where units need to be removed for inspection, or during pipeline cleaning and maintenance processes.

They have stainless-steel pressure chambers and dual draw bolts with graphite ribbon or Teflon gland packing, and a precision gearbox designed in conjunction with gear specialist Davall to act on the draw bolts to provide precise, reliable and, most importantly, easy insertion and withdrawal.
