Two part/colour moulding using the same machine often means complex, expensive tools and machines but using two tools or machines Toolcraft Plastics of Swindon can provide cost benefits and offer other advantages For example, parts inspection between the shots improves overall yield as defective pieces are eliminated at the first stage

Careful choice of material and controlled conditions, particularly on the second mould ensures a firm bond without parts distortion.

Recently Toolcraft used this technique to manufacture an assembly for a handheld recyclable monitor which detects hydrogen sulphide, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide with visible and audible alarm.

To complete the assembly, Toolcraft had to manufacture two translucent covers one of which incorporated a clear lens and in the same operation ultrasonically weld threaded brass inserts into the detector chassis, and then pad print onto it.
