Toolcraft Plastics of Swindon reduced tooling costs by two-thirds with the simple yet ingenious idea of splitting the cylinder of Golf-Tech's golf ball server into two parts.

Toolcraft Plastics of Swindon reduced tooling costs by two-thirds with the simple yet ingenious idea of splitting the cylinder of Golf-Tech's golf ball server into two parts.

Completing design so that each half was identical and interlocks then comes from standard engineering design techniques.

Moulding as originally conceived would have needed withdrawing parts of the tool, slowing the moulding operation as well as adding draft angles to the design, in addition to the larger tool.

The half cylinder is now accommodated by a standard bolster with minimum complexity of mould and the production runs are doubled.

The final parts may be joined by an ultrasonic weld or adhesives.
