Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.

Careful tempering of chocolate is essential for ensuring the correct appearance, texture and taste associated with a quality chocolate product.
Part of this process relies on the proper selection and control of the fats used to make the chocolate.

To be hosted by Process Products, this session will feature a presentation from Mettler Toledo, the world's largest manufacturer of weighing equipment for process applications and a leading supplier of analytical instruments for use in industrial, laboratory and food retailing applications.
This presentation will provide a useful insight into how best to design and implement weighing systems that meet the relevant standards governing quality control and safety in process and packaging applications across a range of industries.
Tuesday 30th March (2pm - 4pm) - Strategies for milling potent and explosive compounds in the pharmaceutical industry.
In this session, hosted by Solids and Bulk Handling, speakers from powder processing and handling specialist, Kemutec, will address the issue of processing and handling of powders in pharmaceutical applications.
The presentation will draw on case study evidence to outline how to design a powder milling plant that meets the requirements for containment, explosion protection and operator safety.
Wednesday 31st March (11am - 1pm) - Meeting the requirements of modern health and safety legislation.
Recent developments in health and safety legislation have placed processing and production companies under increasing pressure to protect against the risk of accidents in the workplace.
Two new pieces of legislation in particular are already having ramifications for industrial companies, namely ATEX and the new IEC61508 standard.
To be hosted by Process Engineering journal, this seminar will examine the implications of recent legislation for companies in the processing and production sectors.
Health and safety specialists Martin Keay of En-sure and Clive De Sallis of Rowan House will explain how to meet these pieces of legislation and will highlight the steps that companies need to take to meet their obligations.
Wednesday 31st March (2pm - 4pm) - The Secondary Market for Process Equipment and Technology in the Chemical Industry.
This workshop will feature a presentation by Gregg Epstein, president of Perry Process Equipment Ltd, which specialises in the buying and selling of used process equipment.
This presentation will examine the benefits and potential drawbacks associated with the purchase of used process equipment and machinery, the factors to consider when making a second-hand purchase and how to ensure that such equipment is fit for purpose.
Thursday 1st April (11am - 1pm) - Solutions to complex issues concerning powder handling when designing a new factory for bulk pharmaceuticals.
To be hosted by Pharmaceutical Technology Europe, this workshop will explore the complex issues involved in designing powder handling facilities for new pharmaceutical production plants.
Frederic Dietrich, technical director of Dietrich Engineering Consultants sa of Switzerland, will introduce a new philosophy for handling powder in a safe and contained way which simplifies the design of new plant and helps reduce the overall investment.
He will explain how to design powder handling systems to meet the relevant safety and working regulations and will demonstrate how the layout and validation of a plant can be simplified.
