The Tees Valley Engineering Partnership has appointed Malcolm Oliver as Chairman of its Education and Skills Group.

The group, part of the TVEP's strategy to promote the local engineering sector, will work towards attracting new people into employment in the industry and ensure high levels of training and skills are maintained.

Oliver, 48, will lead the group voluntarily alongside his full-time position as Director of The Chieftain Group as well as Executive Director of Teesside based R Blackett Charlton, which provides engineering services to the process and energy sector.

Originally from Newcastle, Oliver has more than 20 years experience in the Tees Valley engineering sector, including a period working as Managing Director for Aker Kvaerner.

Now settled in Darlington with wife Josie, Oliver is keen to show support to the Tees Valley engineering sector.

He said: "I am delighted to be working as part of the Tees Valley Engineering Partnership alongside many of the region's most successful engineering companies".

"I see my appointment as Chairman of the Education and Skills Group as a chance to give something back to the industry that I have worked in for so many years and to help the youngsters that are currently progressing through the sector".
