Business awards gain engineering dimension

Part of the UK National Business Awards the IMechE Engineering the Future Award is open to engineering centred solutions in any environment.

Organisations from both the private and public sectors are now being invited to enter the IMechE Engineering the Future Award in this year's National Business Awards.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday 25th July 2007.

New for 2007, the award will go to the organisation which can best demonstrate how it has made a significant contribution to global sustainability through an engineering centred solution in any environment.

The submission can be based on a corporate or single project solution in such fields as production, consumption, pollution, recycling, waste management etc.

The judges will be looking for evidence of how engineering knowledge was applied to address the identified issues with particular reference to how the knowledge and skills of the people were developed and how they will be sustained in the future.

Uniquely open to organisations of all sizes and from any industry sector, the Awards allow the best of British businesses to showcase their achievements and benchmark their successes against firms and bodies of all types, the combined turnover of entrants in 2006's national programme was GBP 366 billion with a profit of GBP 32 billion, and it represented 1.8 million UK employees and 250,000 personnel overseas.

Made up of 18 categories, short listed finalists will be announced in late August before preparing to make their presentations in person before an independent expert judging panel in late September/early October.

Winners will be unveiled at a gala awards ceremony and dinner at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on 13th November 2007.
