The combination of DMT flat bed lathe design with Heidenhain's latest Manual Plus M contouring control system introduces a general purpose workshop electronic turning machine solution

The combination of DMT flat bed lathe design with Heidenhain's latest Manual Plus M contouring control system introduces a general purpose workshop, up to small batch production, 'electronic' turning machine solution with a swing over bed up to 800 mm by up to 4,000 mm between centres Available from Traub Heckert UK of Brackley, the DMT electronic series machines covers the Status and Kern versions

The Status has 400 mm swing by 1,000 mm between centres ideal for training, workshop-type repair work and toolroom applications at a very competitive price performance ratio.

Meanwhile, the four machine Kern Series, have swings of 320 mm, 475 mm, 650 mm and 800 mm with up to 4,000 mm between centres which is ideal for small production batch work.

Across the range, the Heidenhain control, in conjunction with electronic handwheels, dynamic graphics support and full guarding makes the DMT machines ideally suited for single part and automatic repeat cycle turning operations.

The control provides as much or as little CNC assistance as the user needs, in the well-proven operator friendly style developed by the control builder.

It has a memory capacity for 96 programs and a 96 tool inventory.

A range of macros and terminology, familiar to the operator, allows seamless program generation.

The combination of teach/repeat and canned cycles include threading, rough and finish profiling, undercutting, grooving, tapers and spiral groove type forming.

In CNC mode, constant surface speed ensures high and consistent surface finish.

Spindle speed and feed rates can be adjusted during machine cycles via the simple apron mounted travelling control panel.

Rapid traverse rates are 5 m/min in X and 10 m/min in Z both of which are actioned via joystick control and large viewing windows simplifies machine operation.

The Status machine has a maximum turning diameter of 230 mm and a 10 kW spindle with three stage gearbox giving high torque throughout the one to 3,000 revs/min speed range.

Feed rate in X-axis is between 0.001 and 1,000 mm/min and in Z, up to 2,000 mm/min.

A 60 mm quill tailstock has 120 mm travel and a MULTIFIX tool holder system includes change holder with 'Capto' system as an option.

The Kern CD range has maximum turning diameters of 150 mm, 260 mm, 420 mm and 530 mm with drives available covering 10 kW, 25 kW, 33 kW and 37 kW.

These generate spindle speeds of 4,000, 3,000, 2,000 and 1,800 revs/min respectively.

Tailstock quill diameters are up to 115 mm with 225 mm travel and in order to 'productionise' the machine, automatic turret, drilling and milling attachments for pitch circle drilling and milling are options.

These options integrate fully with the Heidenhain control in conjunction with Z and C-axis interpolation for face and OD feature machining.

Swarf conveyor, power operated chucks and quick-change tooling can be supplied.
