The MV is a new range of vertical machining centres from the Italian specialist builder Eikon featuring up to 1,500 mm for the travelling column X-axis with 10,000 revs/min spindle as standard, 0.8 secs toolchange and 40 m/min rapid traverse rates Available from Traub Heckert UK of Brackley, the MV1 has a single 600 mm by 300 mm worktable and 350 mm X-axis while the MV2, which has twin 600 mm by 300 mm fixed worktables is able to perform pendulum type machining cycles or accommodate a large component to span both tables

In the MV2, X-axis traverse is 500 mm as standard but can be increased to 1,500 mm by removing a bulkhead panel in the guarding.

The Y-axis is 300 mm and vertical Z-axis 350 mm on both machines.

A 5 kW AC spindle with ISO 40 taper has an infinitely variable speed range up to 10,000 revs/min.

However, a 12,000 revs/min spindle option is available and up to 30 bar through the spindle coolant pressure can be specified.

Feed rates are up to 12 m/min with rapid traverse rate extremely quick for a travelling column design at 40 m/min.

Supplied from a 20 tool magazine carried on the column and able to accept tool diameters up to 63 mm diameter by 200 mm long, tool exchange can be carried out within 0.8 secs and takes just 2 secs in total chip to chip time.
