Now available from Trident Engineering is the 22BC, a 22mm, ironless core, brushless DC motor from API Portescap.

Using rare earth magnet technology, the 22BC is a highly efficient and reliable motor that is capable of producing a continuous torque of 20mNm that can rise up to three times that value by tripling the current over short periods of time.

Commutation can either be by use of position sensors or back-EMF depending on the most suitable for the specific application.

The 22BC-3C sensorless motor requires only three connecting wires and the instantaneous rotor position is determined by analysing the back-EMF curves.

This version is designed for continuous operation at high speeds of up to 40,000rpm.

Using Hall effect sensors to detect rotor position, the design of the 22BC-8B is optimised for incremental motion and positioning over a wide speed range.

This new range of motors is ideal for medical hand tools, dentist drills and other forms of instrumentation.
