TRL Compliance Services, the specialist UK test and certification company has been awarded an EMC enabling contract by the UK's Defence Communication Services Agency (DCSA) DCSA is responsible for the delivery of information and communication services (ICS) across the Ministry of Defence

News of the contract broke almost simultaneously with the opening of TRL Compliance's new 18m x 14m x 6m EMC test chamber in Malvern.

In an almost prescient address during the opening ceremony, Sir Michael Spicer, MP for West Worcester and Chairman of the UK Conservative Party's influential 1922 Committee commented that the new facility would bring new jobs and be of great benefit to high tech business activities locally and within the country as a whole.

The opening was attended by around 40 people working in diverse fields including military, aerospace, industrial systems, vehicles and public Transport.

The new secure chamber, with its five-metre entrance, also features reinforced flooring to handle loads up to 80 tonnes, the access road to the chamber has also been constructed to carry such heavy loads.

Mark Heaven, TRL's operations director commented: "Many visitors on the day remarked on the timely opening of the facility as it means that vehicle and large system compliance testing can be achieved without delays, following the closure of two other sites in the UK within the last 18 months." Explained Heaven: "This is an important step for TRL Compliance.

We invested the equivalent of GBP 1 million in our military test services two years ago, and our new Malvern site enables us to test all sorts of large military vehicles and equipment.

We are now listed in the DCSA directory as an approved supplier for EMC services." He continued: "In the future, we plan to develop the services that we offer at Malvern, including environmental and specialist tempest testing, continuing the traditions of technical excellence in the area, which has been responsible for the development of radar systems during World War II and more recently, border patrol imaging systems."
