Paul Edwards, Business Development Manager for 3T RPD, will be taking part in this year's Great North Run on Sunday 21st September 2003.

The event is one of the most popular and successful half marathons in the UK, covering 13.1 miles from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields on the coast.

Edwards is raising money for two worthy causes.

First, Leukaemia Research (includes Hodgkin's, Lymphoma and Myeloma), which is the official charity of the race.

Secondly, Edwards will be running in memory of Billy Bell, who sadly died earlier this year at the age of 71.

People of the North East may remember Bell who was among the most successful non-league football managers in the region.

He won the Northern league in four consecutive seasons between 1969 and 1973 with Evenwood, Spennymoor and Blyth Spartans.

Bell also managed Tow Law Town when a young Chris Waddle was beginning his football career.

Having been friends of the family for many years, Edwards will be donating some of the money raised to a charity chosen by Bell's wife Toni and son Graeme.

Edwards says: "Having grown up in Newcastle upon Tyne I have always wanted to take part in this run since it started back in the early 1980s, but never actually got round to entering.

Last year I decided to get fit again and thought that now would be a good time to enter.

As with everything in life, having a target and a goal has meant I have achieved a lot more in training.

I'm aiming to complete the course in under 2 hours, but as this is the furthest I've ever run I'll be pleased to actually complete the course".

Any donations for sponsorships would be greatly appreciated.
