Paul Edwards, Business Development Manager for 3T RPD, completed last Sunday's Great North Run in 1 hour 50 minutes 36 seconds, achieving his personal best over this distance.

From sponsorships received so far, Edwards estimates he will raise GBP 300 for Leukaemia Research, the official charity of the race, and GBP 150 for a charity nominated by the family of Billy Bell, the North-East footballing hero who sadly died earlier this year aged 71.

Bell was among the most successful nonleague football managers in the region and won the Northern league in four consecutive seasons between 1969 and 1973 with Evenwood, Spennymoor and Blyth Spartans.

He also managed Tow Law Town when a young Chris Waddle was beginning his football career.

Edwards says: "Having grown up in Newcastle upon Tyne I have always wanted to take part in this run since it started back in the early 1980s, but never actually got round to entering.

Last year I decided to get fit again and thought that now would be a good time to enter.

As with everything in life, having a target and a goal has meant I have achieved a lot more in training.

My aim was to complete the course in under 2 hours, and I am extremely pleased with my time.

Now I've set myself a target to beat next year".

It's not too late to sponsor Edwards, and all donations will be gratefully received.
