Torit DCE's reputation for dust control has proved decisive in winning another prestigious overseas contract - this time as part of a substantial refurbishment to a Sri Lankan biscuit factory

Torit DCE's industry-leading reputation for reliable, high quality dust control has proved decisive in winning another prestigious overseas contract - this time as part of a substantial refurbishment to a Sri Lankan biscuit factory.

Working closely with Warrington-based bakery machinery specialist, Sasib UK, Torit DCE has provided a comprehensive dust control system to serve ingredient handling and food processing applications at the Maliban plant, near Mount Lavinia.

Sasib's biscuit and snacks division has carried out an extensive upgrade to the bakery, converting the old, manually operated factory into a highly efficient, fully automated production facility.

Refurbishment has involved installation of new hoppers, silos, conveyors, blowing systems, blenders, mixers and control systems integrated with state-of-the-art dust extraction from Torit DCE.

Using all its 80 years' experience in the field, Torit DCE has designed an effective and reliable dust control system based on its highly successful Unimaster and Dalamatic product ranges.

Nine Unimaster dust collection units and 15 Dalamatic Insertable filters have been installed at the plant to extract predominantly flour and sugar dust from key points in the factory.

These include hoppers, silos and bin areas together with ingredient conveying, weighing, preparation and mixing areas.

"We demand from all our suppliers reliable, 'fit and forget' equipment that will stand the test of time" comments James Healey, Project Manager at Sasib UK.

"This is especially important on overseas projects where reliability problems can cause repair and maintenance costs to spiral out of control.

Torit DCE is widely known for the proven durability of its equipment, high quality manufacturing standards and good overseas support.

That's why we know we're in safe hands." All Torit DCE equipment is designed to provide a lifetime of high efficiency dust extraction performance.

The new dust collectors and insertable filters will combine to reduce dust emission levels well within specified limits, creating a much cleaner and more productive working environment.

This is particularly important given the potential health hazards posed by high concentrations of flour and sugar dusts.

Torit DCE has also taken account of the possible explosion risks associated with these ingredients.

In the unlikely event that such an explosion does occur, each Unimaster dust collector incorporates a special explosion relief panel.

The Dalamatic insertables used on the project are built for direct insertion into process machinery, enabling the immediate return of dust to the process.

Installation of these filters has proved cost-effective for Sasib.

They require no additional engineering or dedicated ducting, and maintenance is also possible without having to shut down the entire dust control system.

The Maliban project was completed earlier this year.
