Low noise belt and pulley drives capacity doubled

A Transmission Developments product story

The European special pulley manufacturer for Goodyear Eagle drives, which are increasingly used for their inherently low noise properties, has increased it sproduction capacity to meet demand

Transmission Developments, European special pulley manufacturer for Goodyear Eagle HOT (helical offset tooth) pulleys, has doubled its capacity for these technologically advanced power transmission systems.

Rapidly increasing demand for low noise Eagle 8 and 14mm pitch drives has instigated the commissioning of a second 1000mm diameter capacity offset double helical gearcutting machine.

The custom machines cut the opposing helical offset teeth on each reciprocating cutter stroke.

Goodyear Eagle drives are increasingly used for their inherently low noise properties (up to 20dbA reduction) giving the machine designer more flexibility in conforming to the latest national and international machinery and factory noise directives.

Using Eagle drives can result in the reduction or elimination of traditional passive noise enclosures resulting in high levels of cost reduction.

The offset helical teeth of the belts and pulleys also reduce the normal 'polygonal effect' of all timing belts to an absolute minimum resulting in a much smoother drive.

The chevron toothform of the Eagle drive is self-tracking and therefore does not require either flanged pulleys or wider unflanged pulleys to allow for belt tracking.

The elimination of flanges is particularly important on vertical shaft drives where with conventional drives the lower flange and belt edge can experience high wear due to the effect of gravity on the belt.

Transdev offers the full range of standard belt and pulley combinations as well as a full design and development service to both OEM's and replacement customers.

Recent new applications include machine tool spindle drives and paper and foil converting machine drives where low noise and drive smoothness is of paramount importance..
