No derating for enhanced chains

A Tsubakimoto product story

Enhanced Runner chain combines the benefits of easy disassembly with a "ring coining" process that removes the need to derate drive chains to the allowable load of their connecting links.

The design of Tsubaki's new Enhanced Runner series BS/DIN European Standard chain combines the benefits of easy disassembly (or "easy break") with a unique "ring coining" process that overcomes the historical problem for users of having to derate drive chains due to the lower maximum allowable load of their connecting links.

The "ring coining" process creates plastic deformation around the pinhole on the cover plates of the "runner" chain.

This generates residual stress around the deformed area, which boosts the transmission capacity of the connecting links to the same level as the chain itself.

In addition to providing higher transmission capacity, Enhanced Runner BS/DIN series chain also meets the needs of modern manufacturing processes for easy disassembly on-the-spot, the so-called "easy break" facility.

The new centre sink design of the rivet head is a result of years of experience in manufacturing marine diesel chain at Tsubaki, arguably, the pinnacle of roller chain development.

Thus Enhanced Runner chain provides users with the facility to extract the pin simply, on-site, with a standard screw type chain cutter.

One other benefit of the new centre sink pin design is that notches on the rivet head indicate line of riveting and easy identification in the case of pin rotation caused by overload conditions.

Adding to its all round capabilities, Enhanced Runner chain has one of the highest tensile strengths available among BS/DIN European chains.

This is the result of building the most technologically advanced roller chain heat treatment facility in the world and using only specially selected high quality alloy steel and heat treatment processes that are unique to Tsubaki.

Enhanced Runner chain uses solid rollers, bushes and link plates, all of which are shot-peened, a process that work hardens the surface of these components, improving their durability at high speed and increasing fatigue strength.

As an additional enhancement, the new wider link plate design of RS16B has improved fatigue strength still further.

As standard, the chain is pre stressed after manufacture to ensure all components are properly seated reducing the need for initial chain adjustment and in addition has improved length tolerance of Enhanced Runner chain from 0/+0.15% to 0/+0.13%.

For particular application requirements, Tsubaki can offer on short lead times, specific matched lengths in pairs or more for requirements.

Being acutely aware of need to protect our environment, the design of Tsubaki's Enhanced Runner encompasses environmental initiatives with regard to its packaging.

The packaging is recyclable and in order to prevent the light uniform lubricant applied to the chain contaminating the carton, Tsubaki protect the chain with a thin plastic bag.

What's more, Tsubaki has increased the range available of BS roller chain to include RS05B and RS48B and is soon to offer a range of lubricants for specialist applications, further enhancing the industry suitability of Tsubaki BS/DIN series roller chain.
