The smooth power of an ARO 3" double diaphragm pump, from the compressed air and pneumatic equipment specialists, Thomas Wright Thorite Group, is assisting in the manufacture of high quality vitreous china sanitary ware Heritage J Ceramics, the Brighouse-based makers of wash basins, WC's and bidets, depend on the availability of clay slip of a constantly uniform consistency for their casting processes

The slip is pumped around the casting floor in a 100mm (4 inch) diameter ring main, with take off points where numerous moulds are filled.

Heritage's previous pumps created slight fluctuations in supply pressure, causing turbulence leading to air bubbles forming in the slip.

Ultimately these bubbles became pinholes in the china during firing.

Thomas Wright's Bradford office proposed replacing the original pump with the ARO, which is renowned for its smoothness of operation.

'The installation of the ARO pump has produced major benefits in terms of slip consistency,' said ceramics director, Brian Keeley.

'This in turn has made the whole plant considerably more efficient.' The ARO pump range consists of over 60 models from 17.4 litres per minute to 1041 litres per minute capacity.

Heritage J Ceramics is part of the Masco Corporation of North America and has growing markets in the UK, USA, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
