Conductive polypropylene diaphragm pumps have carbon fibre content to satisfy the Atmosphere Explosives Directive 94/9/EC, due to be introduced in July 2006 for the chemicals processing industry.

Compressed air and fluid process systems firm Thorite has introduced Ingersoll Rand Aro Exp Atex diaphragm pumps The range includes conductive polypropylene models with carbon fibre content, developed to satisfy requirements within the Atmosphere Explosives Directive 94/9/EC, which the chemicals processing industry must meet on its introduction in July this year

Seven pump models are available, ranging in maximum flow outputs from 200 to 696 litre/min, with a common maximum discharge pressure of 827kPa.

Benefits of the conductive polypropylene range include the elimination of material contamination, higher conductivity, greater corrosion, impact and high temperature resistance, and better strength-to-weight ratios than traditional diaphragm pumps.

There are no problems with pump freezing, stalling and leaking, while the convoluted diaphragm design extends the diaphragm's working life by up to four times.
