Compressed air system promises speedy payback

A new leak-free compressed air system has enabled Bosal to reduce the running time of its five compressors by more than 50% each week.

Compressed air and fluid process systems specialist, Thorite, has installed a new 3in-diameter compressed air ring main with zone valves and related equipment, plus a new gas welding ring main of 2in diameter, with 1in take off points, at replacement automotive exhaust system manufacturer Bosal (UK) of Preston, Lancashire.

The leak-free compressed air system has enabled Bosal to reduce the running time of its five compressors by more than 50% each week.

These compressors are used to power pneumatically controlled machines and air activated tube saws, as well as providing breathable air for welding.

Bosal calculates that the electrical power saving and improved control resulting from Thorite's expertise is saving 264 hours of compressor running time per week, which equates to a very significant saving of GBP 26,000 per year.

The new gas main has provided additional savings - by removing leakage and reducing the operating pressure - the company finds it is now consuming only half the volume of gas previously required each week.
