Merger increases process industry experience

A TUV SUD America product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 5, 2006

TUV SUD is aiming to strengthen its market leadership as a provider of test services catering to the chemical, pharmaceutical and process industries.

TUV SUD, parent company of TUV SUD America, is to further extend its range of industry-specific services and strengthen its market leadership as a provider of test services catering to the chemical, pharmaceutical and process industries.

From 1st October 2006, the Frankfurt-based Materials Technology Unit of R and M Industrieservice Hochst Spezialitaten (former Materials Technology Unit of Hoechst) will merge with TUV SUD Chemie Service headquartered in Leverkusen.

R and M Industrieservice Hochst, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, is the leading provider of technical services for the process industry in the Rhine-Main region.

The sale of the Materials Technology Unit was decided for strategic reasons, taking into account altered legal framework conditions.

Also in October 2006, TUV SUD Chemical Services will effectively take over the remaining shares in the Frankfurt-based Signum Gesellschaft fur Anlagensicherheit (former in-company testing and inspection unit of Hoechst), further strengthening its industry expertise for technical plant safety and plants and installations in the chemical, pharmaceutical and process industries falling under regulatory supervision and inspection.

TUV SUD Chemie Service is aligned to the market requirements of the chemical and chemical-using industries and enables its customers to focus on their core business.

The range of services offered by TUV SUD Chemical Services is now extended to include materials technology comprising testing of corrosion and strength properties, nondestructive testing and online monitoring of plants and installations during operation, as well as welding technology.

Quality assurance offered by the Materials Technology Unit ideally rounds off the quality management services for investment projects already offered.

"The transfer of this field of activity to TUV SUD Chemical Services marks an important step which was necessary to continue effectively satisfying the requirements of the changing testing and inspection market", explains Dr Joachim Kreysing, Managing Director of R and M Industrieservice Hochst.

"As a provider of maintenance services, we will not obtain the new accreditation as approved body (Zentrale Uberwachungsstelle, ZUS) which will be critical to operate successfully in this market in future".

"We are convinced, however, that we have found a partner in TUV SUD Chemical Services to continuously improve these activities that are of critical importance to our customers".

"Additionally, this merger will give rise to new co-operative opportunities along the entire life cycle of process engineering plants and installations".
