Alaris has used Highly Accelerated Life Testing, HALT, over the last five years, at its San Diego headquarters and now, additionally, at TUV PS - along with other services

Alaris is one of the largest manufacturers of medical drug infusion devices in the world Manufacturing at Basingstoke to serve a worldwide market outside of the US, Alaris produces syringe drivers and large volume pumps, both designed to deliver drugs intravenously into patients at a highly controlled rate

"The criticality of the application naturally calls for the utmost reliability of our devices in the field", comments electronic engineer and project manager James Shearn.

"We use HALT at the end of the development cycle as part of a rigorous testing r?gime that demonstrates compliance of our products to the requirements for CE marking under the Medical Devices Directive.

"We've used HALT over the last five years, at our San Diego headquarters and additionally at TUV PS in the last 12 months.

We've seen that the technique can quickly flush out failure modes which would later have shown up in production and delayed our products' entry onto the market." Alaris uses a variety of TUV PS' services - HALT, atmospheric pressure testing, and assessment of its product and documentation for CE marking by medical equipment specialists in Munich.

"We can rely on TUV PS to make a positive contribution to our product development", James Shearn concludes.

HALT and HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening) are techniques for product verification designed to expose design and production flaws respectively.

TUV Product Service is able to provide both types of testing through a strategic alliance with QualMark Corporation of Denver, USA.

Product weaknesses are exposed in just a few days, saving clients weeks, months or even years of testing and ensuring the highest standard of in-field reliability.
