The TUV Rheinland Group can help manufacturers demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the UK Government's Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme and obtain the ETL approval for their products.

The UK Government's Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme for companies investing in energy saving equipment is part of the UK response to the Kyoto Agreement on global warming, and is aimed to encourage the UK manufacturing industry to adopt energy saving measures The need for UK industry to adopt energy saving products has grown during the last 12 months due to the rapid increase in the cost of oil on the world market leading to ever increase energy costs

The UK Government issued a Consultation Document, "Energy efficiency measures under the Climate Change Levy" in December 1999, and from this the Chancellor proposed the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme.

The ECA scheme enables businesses to claim 100% first year capital allowances on investments in energy saving technologies and products.

The scheme requires businesses to install energy saving products bearing the ETL approval mark to qualify for the enhanced allowance.

Products bearing the ETL mark will have a considerable lead over their competitors as only ETL marked products qualify for the enhanced capital allowances.

Product covered by the scope of the scheme are: air-to-air energy recovery systems, automatic monitoring and targeting boilers, combined heat and power (CHP), compact heat exchangers, compressed air equipment, heat pumps for space heating, HVAC zone controls, lighting, motors, pipework insulation, refrigeration equipment, solar thermal systems, thermal screens, variable speed drives, warm air and radiant heaters.

The TUV Rheinland Group can help manufacturers, both in the UK and overseas, demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the scheme and obtain the ETL approval for their products.

As part of the scheme approved products are randomly checked to ensure continuing compliance.

Product that have been safety tested and certified by TUV will also have ongoing product surveillance from TUV to ensure that the product continues to be safe and meet the requirements of the scheme.

Only products approved by the scheme can be marked with the ETL mark to indicate their compliance.
