Welding seminar focuses on special rail grades

The 10th technical seminar of the Institute of Rail Welding, will be held at TWI, Great Abington on Thursday 16th November 2006.

The 10th technical seminar of the Institute of Rail Welding, will be held at TWI, Great Abington on Thursday 16th November 2006.

This event the spotlight will be on special rail grades.

For example, crane, rail light railways, tramways and funiculars.

The topics to be covered will include repair and refurbishment as well as new construction.

Proposed topics include: the UK vision for light rail transport systems; welding of "abnormal" joints, eg grooved rail to flat-bottomed rail; construction of funiculars; welding of crane rail; repair of grooved rail without preheat; grinding techniques on tramways; a continental viewpoint; and rail welding for Metro de Santiago Chile.

The event is aimed at rail welding and related personnel at all levels.

Previous events in this series have been attended by over 100 people including welders, inspectors, supervisors, trainers, managers, engineers etc.
