Gearbox is crucial to satellite success
The recent successful launch and subsequent solar array deployment of the Eur 2 billion (GBP 1.2 billion) Envisat satellite depended (in part) on a 4in-diameter gearbox.
Gearboxes boost output torque
David Brown Engineering has extended its successful Series G range of medium/heavy duty helical gearboxes to increase the maximum output torque available by over 50%.
Benzlers Series BD screw jacks are used in the final assembly section of the plant in preference to hydraulic or pneumatic jacks because of their greater precision and consistency.
They are used to lift and lower the rear sections of the cars as they are carried by an electric overhead conveyor through the automated production line, up to point at which the rear section is married to the front end and engine.
The OEM-supplied Benzlers screw jacks in the plant had performed well over for 15 years but were not designed to achieve the faster working required under Regenburg's ambitious expansion plans, which has seen production increase from 200 units per day to 900 units per day.

Contra-rotating geared motor is a good mixer
A contra rotating geared motor for industrial mixers has been developed by Custom Power Transmission using standard units by TPT David Brown Engineering.
Moreover, their age had created a maintenance problem in that it had become difficult to obtain a specific type of screw needed for the replacement of spindles.
Benzlers, a Textron Power Transmission company, supplied 82 BD58-L-N-4-B screw jacks to the Regensburg plant.
Benzlers mechanically operated screw jacks are built for linear raising, lowering, pulling, pushing, pressing or adjusting various types of load.
Their precise positioning features make them superior to pneumatic or hydraulic jacks in many applications.
Capable of withstanding high loads in demanding environments, they are compact, easy to integrate and can be fitted with almost any drive motor.
Synchronisation in systems is easily achieved with jacks that perform exactly the same movement, in exactly the same time, with millimetre-precise positioning.
Series BD screw jacks incorporate worm gear ratios designed not to back drive, high capacity taper roller and thrust bearings, and are lubricated for life.
They are capable of handling loads of 100t and offering operating linear speeds up to 300mm/s.
Available in several versions, Benzlers screwjacks are of a durable design and construction, compact, and easy to integrate.
There are no pipelines with pressure losses, no hydraulic oil spillage.
They are environmentally safe and almost maintenance free.
Benzlers application engineers are able to assist customers with calculations and installation proposals even for larger more complex lifting systems.
