Fujitec America, the leading supplier of escalator systems in the USA, has selected David Brown Engineering to supply double enveloping gear drive escalator packages as part of the upgrading of Chicago's famous elevated train urban transit system, the L.
David Brown Engineering was selected after agreeing with Fujitec America to a delivery time of 10 weeks - less than half the time originally quoted by the previous supplier.
Other factors behind the award of the order was the company's ability to meet the needs of Fujitec America regarding the physical size of the units, noise rating and minimal vibration for smooth riding.
David Brown's double enveloping gearing promotes high torque per centre distance, heavy shock loading capabilities and smooth running, all resulting from multiple gear teeth in contact with the worm.
The order from Fujitec America is for David Brown's HU60 (6in centre distance), double extended input worm shafts modified to suit brake and flywheel, together with Baldor heavy-duty motors, brakes and baseplates making eight complete escalator drive systems.
Fujitec America has earned an unmatched reputation in the industry for the design, installation and maintenance of heavy-duty transit escalators throughout the USA.
Projects include installation of subway escalators in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Washington DC.
