Apprentice scoops prize at Maintec

A David Brown Engineering product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 14, 2006

Aaron Williams, an apprentice at BPI Films, Leominster, has won an iPod Nano, courtesy of a competition held at Maintec 2006.

At Maintec 2006 - the UK's leading maintenance exhibition - visitors to the David Brown stand were given the chance to win a specially engraved iPod Nano.

The lucky winner is Aaron Williams, an apprentice at BPI Films, Leominster.

With recent years showing a decline in the number of people entering the manufacturing industry, David Brown was pleased to note the numbers of young people at the exhibition.

Commenting Peter Bulkley, Director, Product Management David Brown Engineered Products said: "We have a long history of encouraging young people to enter our industry and a policy of running apprenticeship schemes, so it was great to see an apprentice win the prize".

A division of British Polythene Industries, which is the largest producer of polythene film products in the UK and Europe, BPI Films produces silage stretchwrap and manufactures a variety of other stretchfilm products.

Like David Brown, BPI Films believes that a strong apprenticeship programme will help to attract fresh faces into the industry.

Tony Sole, Operating Director at BPI Films said: "We are committed to apprenticeships and believe that they will help to improve the image of the manufacturing industry".

"We have always found the results to be positive - indeed many of our current employees began their careers with us as apprentices".
