Index brings more control to patent data
Customers can now leverage Derwent World Patents Index data in their intellectual property workflows through enhancements made to Delphion productivity and analysis tools.
Customers can now leverage Derwent World Patents Index data, along with full-text patent office data, in their intellectual property workflows through enhancements made to Delphion productivity and analysis tools.
A significant new development is inclusion of DWPI records in Work Files - personalised lists of patents that can be shared and annotated - providing an ideal way for groups of users to collaborate on research findings.
"Combining DWPI records and original patent office records in the same Work File enhances the value of Delphion for both patent attorneys and inventors", said Roy Zimmermann, Principal Patent Information Specialist, Medtronic.
"I can combine results of several full text and DWPI searches into a Work File, which I can then share with a project team".
"The scientists appreciate the clearer, briefer presentation of an invention in a DWPI record, while the attorneys have access to the claims".
In addition to enhanced patent titles and abstracts written in English using clear, descriptive, industry-specific terms, DWPI data give researchers the ability to view only one record per invention, eliminating the duplication created by multiple patent publications.
This enables more accurate analysis and faster review of relevant records than can be done with patent office data alone.
"Making the combination of DWPI and original patent office data available in the same tools offers unprecedented opportunities for analysis and collaboration".
"This is a perfect example of the deeper integration of Thomson data we've promised", explained Brian Tyler, Executive Vice President, Corporate Markets, Thomson Scientific.
"With access to an increasingly integrated Thomson product line, customers will maximise their investments and derive more value from our products".
In addition to Work Files, users can now explore DWPI data through: Data Extract for export of key bibliographic fields.
This is the only export in which DWPI data can be combined with original patent office data in a format specifically designed for Derwent Analytics.
A new Derwent Analytics filter - for DWPI data exported from Delphion - is available in conjunction with the release of these Delphion enhancements.
Derwent Analytics is a powerful data mining and visualisation software product for the desktop.
Snapshot allows quick online analysis using barcharts combining DWPI and patent office fields - especially useful with DWPI results that represent one invention per record.
Clustering provides keyword-based linguistic analysis - particularly powerful when performed on the precise, consistent terms used in DWPI data.
PDF Express allows bulk download of up to 500 PDFs of original patent documents, using the basic record for DWPI results.
