Companies in the engineering industry making the most of the Internet are being invited to enter the E-Commerce Awards, offering them the chance to win up to GBP 40,000.

Companies in the engineering industry making the most of the Internet are being invited to enter the E-Commerce Awards, offering them the chance to win up to GBP 40,000 Last year saw over 70 companies from the engineering sector enter the awards with five going on to be shortlisted in the regional finals

These included Liverpool based industrial maintenance specialist Rewinds and J Windsor and Sons, West Midlands tool merchant Paintain Tools and electromechanical products distributor Deltron Roxburgh in Yorkshire and Humber.

This year, the awards have been expanded to include a wider range of organisations, be it sole contractors or established companies, and are divided into four categories.

These are micro business, e-trading, e-business and voluntary and community.

Jenny Searle, Director of UK online for business comments: "As an industry, engineering has demonstrated real innovation in its use of technology and the Internet and we want to recognise and reward this through the Awards.

We hope that the extension of categories will encourage a real mix of companies to enter this year's awards - from self-employed individuals to the bigger sector players".

The annual awards, set up by UK online for business and InterForum, offer a top prize of GBP 30,000 for the overall winner, GBP 8000 for the national category winners, and GBP 2000 for each regional category winner.

Sponsored nationally by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and Cisco Systems, they are open to UK-based organisations with fewer than 250 employees.

The closing date for entries is 17th May 2002.

A simple application form, dates, times, judging guidelines and entry criteria can be found on www.ecommerce-awards.co.uk.
