Completing a questionnaire on the UK online for business website, a company answers 25 multiple-choice questions around its e-business issues.
The questions focus on six areas - technology, customers, suppliers, processes, measurement and planning.
An online report is then produced indicating the areas where a business is strong on its e-business activity and where it can improve.
The report received is largely graphically based and benchmarks companies against annually refreshed data in the following areas: business ranked by adoption of technology; business ranked by sophistication of sales systems; business ranked by use of technology with suppliers; business ranked by use of technology internally; and business ranked by strategic approach to ICT Liz Grant, Director e-Policy and Delivery, DTI commented: "This tool gives companies the chance to find out exactly where they stand in terms of e-business.
Not only does it offer vital information looking at how your business is faring against other companies from a sector or region, but also provides links to appropriate areas of the UK online for business web site to help you improve areas of ICT use identified through the tool".
To support the online benchmarking tool, UK online for business has also produced the new "Transforming your business" CD-ROM.
Created to help companies make more effective use of technology, the CD-ROM features jargon-free, practical information about e-business strategies, like c-commerce and outsourcing, and solutions, such as CRM and online auctions.
In addition, the CD-ROM features a searchable bank of case studies, FAQs, useful sites and "next steps" checklists on implementing the right technology solutions.
The CD-ROM is available via the UK online for business website.
