The Diversity and Inclusion award recognises Dupont's work encouraging female participation and progression in the science, engineering and technology (SET) sector.

DuPont is the first to win a specialist award for gender equality in the manufacturing sector The Diversity and Inclusion award, sponsored by the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (UKRC) and now in its third year, recognises DuPont's commitment to encouraging and promoting female participation and progression in the science, engineering and technology (SET) sector

The UKRC award was presented as one of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers' Manufacturing Excellence Awards (MX 2007).

Annette Williams, Director of the UKRC, said: "It's fantastic that we've finally got a winner".

"Only 5.4% of professional engineers in the UK are women, and only 15% of women with higher science, engineering and technology (SET) qualifications are working in the sector".

"However, DuPont has demonstrated a clear commitment to including and advancing women in SET and is putting projects in place to increase the number of women at senior levels in the future".

"DuPont will serve as an excellent role model for other manufacturing organisations so I look forward to many more winners, showing that equality is being taken on by the sector".

Director of DuPont UK, Mike Taylor, said: "I am really pleased to have our endeavours in diversity and inclusion recognised with this prestigious award, particularly as DuPont is the first company to be recognised in this way".

"Respect for people is one of our four core values".

"Along with our commitment to safety and health, environmental stewardship and to ethics, it underpins everything we do and is key to our business success".

The UKRC MX award for diversity and inclusion is one of a number of schemes created by the UKRC to recognise employer excellence in employment of women in SET.

Established in 2004 to support the government's ten-year strategy for science and innovation, the UKRC works to improve the participation and position of women in SET across industry, academia and public services in the UK.

Funded by the DTI, it provides advice and consultancy on gender equality to employers in industry and academia, professional institutes, education and Research Councils.

The UKRC also helps women entering into and progressing within SET careers, through advice and support at all career stages, training, mentoring and networking opportunities.
