The price/performance standard for high accuracy miniature ballscrews will be redefined in many engineering fields, following the launch of a new range of low cost units by Unimatic The new ballscrews use rolled threads to achieve positional accuracy, and they complement Unimatic1s existing range of ultra high accuracy precision-ground ballscrews

Linear bearings - from Pyramids to Levitation
A survey of linear bearings "From the Pyramids to Magnetic Levitation" by H G Stevens Chairman, Unimatic Engineers Ltd.
In many applications, such as material and assembly testing and physiotherapy equipment, the price premium of precision ground units cannot be justified.
Now Unimatic1s rolled thread ballscrews will satisfy these accuracy requirements at an affordable price.
Unimatic has made the new ballscrews available in eight size options from 6mm to 16mm diameter, with thread leads of 2mm to 5mm.
They are offered in three ISO accuracy grades G5, G7 and G9.
In a typical application the ballscrew would be, say, 315mm long, so its lead error/tolerance is then 23microns (G5), 35 microns (G7) or 87 microns (G9).
Axial play or backlash of the ballnuts is 0.05mm to 0.07mm for standard units, with an option for 0.02mm to 0.03mm for more demanding applications.
When used vertically, the backlash is effectively zero.
Dynamic load ratings range from 1.2kN to 5.2kN.
The ballnuts are through hardened, while the screw shafts are induction hardened to HRc56-60.
Standard operating temperature range is 20 to +110C, with specials being able to operate in temperatures up to 130C The ballnuts have a threaded end for ease of assembly, and the shafts can be phosphate black anodised upon request.
Unimatic has the rolled thread ballscrews available ex-stock and cut to length for 24 hour delivery.
They can also be supplied end machined to customer specification rapidly. Request a free brochure from Unimatic Engineers ...
