Linear actuator beats harshest
environments

Automation specialist Unimatic has introduced a range of intelligent electric linear drives that are IP65 rated.

Automation specialist Unimatic has introduced a range of intelligent electric linear drives that are IP65 rated, so that they can be deployed in the toughest operating environments Potential applications include indoor and outdoor uses, those where caustic chemicals or noxious gases are encountered, hygienic washdown industries, corrosive environments, applications with extreme or widely fluctuating temperatures, and as a replacement for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders

The range encompasses frames sizes 32-100mm and strokes up to 1.5m.

Speeds can be as high as 2m/s, with repeatable positioning accuracy of +/-0.070æm and thrust of 20,000N or more over a 100 per cent duty cycle.

The actuators come supplied with a suitably rated stepper or servomotor, with parallel, reverse-parallel or in-line mounting options.

Sensors and switches for the control functions complete the offering, which Unimatic can provide up to IP67 rating.

These drives are manufactured by Parker Hannifin, for whom Unimatic is a principal distributor, and form part of the ET range.

They feature an epoxy-coated housing and stainless steel is used for the thrust rod and fixings.

Likewise, the attachments can be supplied in stainless if required.

All mechanical joints are sealed with silicone-impregnated gaskets, while the critically important nose seal has a high performance, dual-position design with spring loaded sealing elements on both inner and outer seals to prevent ingress of contaminants.

For the most extreme of environments, a metal scraper can be fitted in place of the outer seal.

Internally the rotary to linear conversion is achieved via a C7 class ballscrew, which ensures smooth operation across the entire speed range and full stroke length.

Screw pitch can be specified between 5 and 40mm/rev, which coupled with selectable drive ratio means optimum speed can be specified for any application.

This ensures that mechanical efficiency of 90 per cent or more can be achieved.

An anti-rotation mechanism prevents the rod from twisting under load.

The nose is designed for maximum support of the rod, so that side loads, rod whip, vibration and run out are minimised. Request a free brochure from Unimatic Engineers ...
