In the UK, Weinig felt that it needed to complement its own range of machines with a template maker and decided to offer the Isel machine from Unimatic.
The machine comes with a CAD/CAM software package called Galaad, developed especially for use with Isel machinery.
"We make templates for one or two of our customers", says Prewitt.
"But the vast majority find it more cost effective to buy the Unimatic machine and software from us because they are constantly developing new moulding designs.
"So we train them on using the machine, and it is here that the Galaad software really shows its strength".
Galaad has 2.5D capabilities, that is full function x and y axes and depth cutting on the z axis.
Functions on the major axes include instructions for offsets, chamfering, rough and finish cutting cycles and clearing cycles for pocket milling.
"All the software vendors we approached said their product was 'user-friendly' but we found this to be a relative term", recalls Prewitt.
"Galaad leads the field in ease of use by an order of magnitude.
Its 2.5 axes format is exactly what is required for template cutting and engraving, which is what our customers want it for.
It really is intuitive, which make our customer training programmes a joy to run.
"But I think the best feature is that you can so easily 'customise' each package to individual customer requirements.
Galaad has a whole host of functions, each selected from a menu of icons, and we can simply switch the icons on and off to set the software up for each customer".
Weinig UK has now established itself as UK market leader in its field, and observing this success its German parent and American sister companies have also now embraced the Unimatic machine and software offering. Request a free brochure from Unimatic Engineers ...
