Encoder addons aid flexibility
US Digital has released three new encoder support products: the Equad, Esum and Etach.
US Digital has released three new encoder support products: the Equad, Esum and Etach.
The Equad converts any clock source into quadrature outputs.
Rising clock pulses generate an A leads B quadrature sequence.
Falling clock pulses generate a B leads A quadrature sequence.
The Equad can be driven by a function generator or other clock source to produce quadrature signals for testing.
The quadrature outputs can also be used as step and direction inputs to common stepper motor drivers.
The Esum combines the quadrature outputs of any two optical encoders into a single quadrature pair.
The sum or difference of the two optical encoders may be selected.
Applications for the Esum include: course and fine operator controls; providing the difference between two shafts when one encoder is mounted on each; and adding a manual position control to a motor controller by inserting the Esum in the motor controller feedback loop.
The Etach enables an incremental digital encoder to serve as an analogue tachometer.
It provides an analogue voltage that is proportional to encoder speed (rate of change of position).
The Etach provides an improvement over traditional analogue tachometer-generators by using digital electronics to provide an analogue output that is free from droop and ripple.
A TTL digital output bit that indicates encoder direction is also provided.
