Laminating system produces custom bicycles

A Huntsman Advanced Materials product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 30, 2008

Araldite LY 564/Aradur 22962 is used to produce the carbon components of the RXR high-performance bicycle.

Time Sport International is a composite sports bicycle frame and accessories manufacturer that has worked with Huntsman Advanced Materials to develop the RXR high-performance bicycle.

Using a multipart assembly technology based on high-modulus carbon composite components, the RXR can be built to individual customer requirements.

Each bicycle frame is comprised of three components made in mould "shells" using an Araldite epoxy system with carbon fibre.

This technology enables the mechanical features of each shell to be modified according to specific requirements.

Each aerodynamic frame is available in four sizes and includes the latest Translink integrated seat tube.

The high-gloss red frame is finished with the Time Sport logo.

Araldite LY 564/Aradur 22962 is used to produce the carbon components.

This amine cured laminating system has very low viscosity so is perfect for the latest injection moulding techniques used by Time Sport such as Resin Transfer Moulding.

It also has a pot life of up to 150 minutes at 23C and high reactivity, curing for 15 minutes at 100C.
