Huntsman releases MEMS-based part-maker

A Huntsman Advanced Materials product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 23, 2008

Huntsman Advanced Materials has brought out the Aralditedigitalis rapid manufacturing machine.

Aralditedigitalis is based on MEMS (micro-electro mechanical system) technology.

It contains a MLS (Microlightswitch), an exposure system that operates via a computer-controlled micro-mechanical shutter system that selectively exposes a larger surface area of radiation-curable resin in a single step.

The exposure enables much faster and accurate manufacturing, even of complex parts.

Aralditedigitalis consists of three key elements: the operating console, the vat enclosure with a re-coater and the exposure system.

UV light from UV lamps is distributed through fibre optics onto the exposure bar, where MLS Microlightswitch units distribute UV light pixels on to the resin surface.

The computer-controlled shutter mechanisms steer the exposure of the UV light to avoid scattering.

The illuminating angle is 90deg, which guarantees uniform and pinpoint accuracy are always achieved.

Micro lenses refocus the UV light after leaving the MLS.
