Huntsman supplies yacht's adhesive epoxy systems

A Huntsman Advanced Materials product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 24, 2009

Huntsman Advanced Materials, a manufacturer of differentiated chemicals, has worked with Swiss distributor Astorit to supply adhesive epoxy systems to infuse the hull and decks of a yacht.

LY564 araldite epoxy infusion systems and XB 3486/87 hardeners were chosen and a thixotropic epoxy adhesive was used for the assembly of all bulkheads, hull-to-deck joints and structures.

Boats made with epoxy resins are claimed to offer superior mechanical properties, long resistance to fatigue, increased resistance to osmosis offering less maintenance and much longer lifecycles.

This particular yacht was designed and built by Swiss boat builder Wacker-Werft to have a lighter and stiffer structure, making it ideal for Regatta sailing.

Huntsman worked with the Swiss distributor Astorit to supply new adhesive epoxy systems and technical support to add more value.
