The new rugged Celesco PT5AV unit from Towcester based Variohm Components Limited is a combination position/velocity transducer designed for extra-long life in high acceleration/deceleration applications, such as die casting, drop testing, injection moulding and crash testing This cable-extension device provides accurate measurements with a precision plastic or hybrid potentiometer for position feedback and a self-generating DC tachometer velocity signal that is proportional to the speed of the cable when extending or retracting

Industrial encoders for dummies
US manufacturer BEI has teamed up with the iconic "For dummies" brand to produce an innovative tutorial guide on industrial encoders.
The PT5AV features an anodised aluminium case sealed to IP65 standards and an optional high-strength, low mass thermoplastic cable for high-velocity measurements.
Cable lengths are available in a variety of lengths between 10 and 150 inches.
Position accuracy is in the range 0.15% to 0.25%.
The PT5AV can be installed and working in minutes and functions perfectly without perfect cable alignment and fit into areas that are unsuitable for rod-type measurement devices.
The cable exit unit can be rotated in 90deg steps through 360deg to select one of four different cable exit orientations.
