Variohm Components have introduced a new Miniature Tension Loadcell.
Available in three package sizes (8, 12 and 20mm diameter), the model 8417 has a capacity range of 100 to 5000 Newtons.
This extremely compact unit is designed for applications such as measuring tensile force in chains or cables, testing the strength of soldered or welded joints, or even monitoring the force required to disconnect electrical plugs and sockets.
The fact that it has threaded studs at either end of the body makes it very easy to mount and it is equally well suited to industrial or laboratory use as the stainless steel body is environmentally sealed and corrosion resistant.
Typical full load deflection is about 60 microns.
the cable outlet is radial to the operating axis so the sensor is suitable for robotic type applications.
At the heart of the loadcell is a membrane carrying a full bridge circuit which offers an output sensitivity of 1.2mV/V and a linearity of better than 0.5%.
A customer can specify a sensitivity of 0.1mV/V if he desires.
The output is fully temperature compensated from 15C to 70C.
The temperature effects on both zero and span are better than 0.03% per degree Kelvin.
