A wide range of weldable strain gauges manufactured by HPI (Hitec Products Inc) offering 'straight-from-the-box' installation are now available from Towcester based Variohm Components Limited Many types are supplied with leads or cables attached which afford easy handling and installation

The 'low' temperature range of weldable and bondable strain gauges offers waterproofed protection for measurement on bridges, ships, pipelines, re-bar, railways, buildings and offshore structures giving very rapid installation especially in extremely hostile conditions where conventional strain gauging cannot be used.

Gauges for immersed applications are individually tested for sealing, thus offering a very high degree of protection and confidence.

The high temperature weldable gauges have been developed to be suitable for pipework and components for automotive, aerospace and power generation applications including nuclear installations where radiation could be present.

Again, these offer rapid installation, even at elevated temperatures.

High temperature weldable gauges can be used at up to 1,000C.

The photograph shows a high temperature installation on an exhaust manifold.

The weldable strain gauge offers an extremely cost-effective solution to strain measurement in many installations since far less surface preparation is usually needed and no curing cycles are involved.

Standard designs are available on very short delivery times and custom gauges can be manufactured to meet special requirements eg.

curved, rosettes, etc.
