Variohm Components Limited have supplied position sensors to the Johansson-Matthews racing team for data logging on their new Reynard 2KQ-LM sports car The Reynard features a new suspension system which has improved its overall performance considerably, lapping at Silverstone more than one second faster than the teams previous Le Mans specification

Towcester based Variohm supplied both linear and rotary sensors to monitor the new suspension arrangement.

The sensors work in conjunction with a Pi Data Logger which enable the team to try different set-ups and monitor how they perform.

The Variohm units were chosen because of the quality of their output signal and the fact that they are absolute devices.

Absolute position is vital on any automotive application where the power supply may need to be connected and disconnected a number of times and where there are no facilities for re-calibrating the system after reconnection.

Being potentiometric, the Variohm units have no problem with this situation.

The high quality signal is due to the fact that the sensors employ a damped wiper system.

Any form of autosport is an extremely demanding application that often involves special development, etc.

The Variohm units used on the Reynard 2KQ-LM however are perfectly standard items which are widely used in a variety of industrial control applications.
