Resin to form new range of films

Ajedium Film Group of Newark, Delaware has chosen Victrex Peek as the base resin for its new line of amorphous films to be marketed under the name Ajedium Victrex Peek - amorphous film.
When compared with other films already on the market such as polyetherimide (PEI), polysulphone (PSU) and polyphenylsulphide (PPS), Victrex Peek-based film can withstand much harsher environments.
For example, it can withstand a wider range of solvents, caustics, and steam than either PEI or PSU.
It is also stronger and has better tribological properties.
When compared to PPS films, it has superior toughness, impact resistance, strength, and folding endurance.
Additionally, Victrex Peek has thermal aging characteristics similar to polyimides.
Ajedium Victrex Peek-based films are also competitively priced with polyimide films.
Specialising in quality films and thin gauge sheets made from high-performance engineering plastics, Ajedium Film Group's processing capabilities produce a wider range of thicknesses, higher tolerances and wider widths than currently available on the US market.
For example, Ajedium is able to produce Victrex Peek-based film in thicknesses ranging from 0.5-50mil with 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20mil thicknesses available from stock.
Tolerances are typically +/-5% across all film thicknesses.
The current standard is +/-20%.
Maximum film width is 48in.
"Victrex Peek is an excellent addition to our resin portfolio", said Kathie Cerchio, Director of Ajedium Film Group.
"It is easily melt processable, has lower moisture absorption, and is tougher, more ductile, and abrasion resistant compared to other polymers".
According to Chris Karas, General Manager for Victrex: "Victrex Peek is the preferred resin for producing high-performance extruded films, offering the broadest combination of properties when compared to other resins.
We are very impressed with Ajedium's manufacturing capabilities to deliver high-quality Ajedium Victrex Peek - amorphous monolayer films to the market".
Victrex Peek-based films have exceptional dimensional stability to 143C.
Higher temperatures cause the material to crystallise.
Victrex Peek can be used up to 260C continuously and is FDA approved.
According to Karas: "It is the most thermally stable high-performance polymer on the market and can withstand rapid thermocycling and reprocessing without loss of properties.
It contains no fillers and no processing aids.
It will not outgas organics and will not leach halogens, salts or oligomers when exposed to liquid environments".
In addition to Victrex Peek-based films, Ajedium Film Group is also developing a wide range of products to meet demanding electrical, automotive, and industrial applications.
Some of these developments include co-extruded multilayers, laminates, and modified filled grades of Victrex Peek polymer.
Ajedium is also developing Ajedium Victrex Peek - crystalline film that is as chemically inert as fluoropolymers, providing excellent electrical insulation, and possessing exceptional tribological properties.
